熒惑

熒惑者,亦稱火星太陽系行星也。有天文代號形「♂」。論及去遠近,行四,論大小,居其七,徑半地球,軸傾角、自轉週略等,公轉則倍之。其表富氧化鐵,故色赤。風暴頻仍,紅塵蔽日。沙丘、礫石者遍佈,為一沙漠行星。古有液態之水,今則凝之為冰。大氣甚少,多為二氧化碳。地動不甚活躍,地表概於遠古出形,坑谷蕃甚,其奧林帕斯山水手號峽谷者,皆為太陽系坑谷之最也。有衛星二,曰福波斯,曰得摩斯,皆名之於馬爾斯之子也。昔人以為有人居焉,今實察之,皆妄言也。美利堅之甚詳。凡著陸探測器者,曰維京,曰勇氣,曰機遇,曰鳳凰,曰好奇,曰洞察。而今有毅力號著陸,其攜儀器精蕃。
