識字

能讀、善筆札者,謂之通文墨;反是,則謂之不識丁

考西字「literacy」通文墨一語之義,學者每以西曆一九五零年為界,判為二期。先是,所謂通文墨者,徒謂能辨字形、解句讀而已。其後,此義漸廣,非復舊觀,不僅在辨字解句,[]更求其所以致用,且及乎禮俗教化之大者[][]。蓋此時之literacy,已通乎經世之學矣。
